Decentralizing legal knowledge using a gamified social platform

A better (and more fun) way of accessing specialized legal opinions and knowledge

Legal professionals Michael Decsey and John Wu approached designer Sean Graham and I with an idea to create a gamified social platform to entertain legal professionals and share valuable legal expertise among the industry. Law is a very specialized field, with experts in many niche areas being the source of wisdom and knowledge on their given topics. Previously, colleagues would have to reach out to them for their knowledge given the opportunity to connect. Law Game's purpose is to decentralize this niche specialized knowledge through a gamified social platform. Through conducting a competitive analysis we were able to explore a unique opportunity to create a gamified social platform. User interviews and testing helped us define the visual layout and flow of features and information.

Harnessing the competitive nature of legal professionals

Law Game harnesses the competitive nature of legal professionals and uses a gamified platform to encourage healthy competition among colleagues and friends, effectively decentralizing and increasing accessibility to valuable legal knowledge. Law Game provides a competitive environment for legal professionals to weigh in on real-life cases and rise in the ranks among their peers for bragging rights. In doing-so, Law Game also increases access to legal opinion as anyone can log in and view a plethora of viewpoints on current and paste legal cases. We also learned (very quickly) that lawyers and legal professionals have very little time to waste. To cater to ths, we provided many ways to play including a "quick play" and 3 primary ways to level up: Judgement (earned through correctly guessing the verdict of a case), Insight (earned through providing an opinion on a case), and Acclaim (earned through popularity of your viewpoint on a case among other users).
